Sightseeing in Jermuk

Jermuk is known for its Water Gallery, a beautiful colonnaded building with pipes feeding stone urns with mineral water at various temperatures ranging from 30°C to 53°C, each believed to have different healing properties. The scenery is especially beautiful due to the nearby lake reflecting the gallery and the surrounding forest like in a mirror.

The true beauty of Jermuk is the waterfall popularly called “Mermaid’s hair” for its resemblance to long flowing hair. The water falls into the Arpa River gorge from a height of about 70 meters. There’s a beautiful yet sad legend about a princess and her beloved shepherd that the locals will definitely tell you once you visit the waterfall site.

The town of Jermuk has an affiliate of the National Gallery of Armenia, home to many paintings by Armenian artists such as Haroutiun Galentz, Martiros Saryan and others. The town also has a public library, a recreation park and clubs. Recently a new church has been built in Jermuk, too.

Good news for the fans of active rest: Jermuk boasts a ropeway (chair-lift) founded in 2007 by the Austrian company “Leitner” and meeting international standards. It enables the mountain-skiers to enjoy the professional ski-runs. At the last stop of the ropeway a special playground is built for riding sledges. Snowmobiles are available as well.
